Math Manipulatives

Using math manipulative can help students a great amount. It can just be a physical object for adding and subtracting or tangrams for fractions. Having a physical object to play with and look at can be a fun and easier way for students to learn. Rather than using just a boring flat piece of paper.

  1. Having been a student who struggled with math in elementry school I really wished we would have had things like this to help me. I grew up with work sheets that I took home and did and in class exercises but I truley believe that having manipulatives like this could have helped me excel in math instead of struggle.

  2. Sarah,

I completely agree with you in that physical objects really help students to learn math. Rather than just seeing the math written on a piece of paper, they can actually use objects to show how to do the math. The website you have a link to is a great source for finding these math manipulatives. I remember using base ten blocks in elementary school to learn things like place value.
